Growth Rate of Health Clubs

While this article can be applied to any business experiencing or preparing for high growth, we will focus on the health club industry. With leading health clubs experiencing a growth rate of 5.3%, (IHRSA, 2015), many clubs might be “missing the boat” when it comes to talent acquisition.

As health club chains grow, so does their need for hiring talent! Despite the apparent urgency in the matter, recruitment portals, and other methods of talent acquisition in many health clubs remain overly complex, and hinder the search for, and hiring of, talent.

Current State of Health Club Recruitment Portals

I have personally witnessed many health club managers bypassing the company’s recruitment portals, and relying instead, on websites like indeed.com and craigslist to find new recruits. This evidence suggests that the undue complexity of our recruitment systems likely cause potential new hires to slip through the cracks only to be recognized and hired by our competition.

What can large and small businesses do to improve their recruitment efforts?

Equinox Discovers Success with New HR Technology

An article by Bill Goodwin published on ComputerWeekly.com depicts how Equinox sought to solve this problem. In his article, Bill Goodwin states that Equinox has doubled in size over the past year from 7K employees to 13K employees! With this growth, however, the complexities of hiring the right people can become overwhelming. Equinox decided to preemptively solve the hiring issues that might arise from their tremendous growth. The company, therefore, invested in a new recruitment portal technology, developed by SmartRecruiters.

"As a result, Equinox experienced an astonishing 80% increase in the number of people applying for jobs!"

In addition, Goodwin writes that the number of visitors to the Equinox job site has grown by 40%. Yannick Riveti, head of recruiting for Equinox said that the new technology allowed the company to track candidates more effectively and has cut weeks off of the amount of time it takes to hire someone.

This example sheds light on one of the many ways businesses can take advantage of new technology to contribute to their bottom line. New HR technology could be used by businesses to help optimize their internal hiring and on-boarding processes.
